Google’s algorithm for ranking your website content changes on a regular basis. What you did last year for good ranking may not apply this year.

While the goal posts keep changing for Search Engine Results, some factors will always be constant.

  • Google still considers “(great)Content is King”. Have lost of well written, relevant content on your site.
  • Faster websites sites have a higher advantage than slower ones.
  • Add or seek quality links to your content from other reputable websites.

The Google search engine’s goal is to put the most relevant content in front of the user, so they keep tweaking the formula.

The #1 spot in Google Search Results has a Click Through Rate of 31.8%. That mean, for every 100 people who search for your keyword, at leat 30 will click on the link and land on your website. After #3 spot, your chances of a click go down exponentially. At #10 result, it’s less than 0.3% of visitors will Click Through to your website.

Search phrases or Keywords can be detailed. About 69% of search queries contain four words or more. The search term is often in the form of a question. This is called a long-tailed keyword.

Over 52.2% of all website traffic is generated by mobile phones. In response, Google now places more importance on how your website loads on a mobile device rather than the desktop version of your website. A mobile optimised website will rank higher than one that is not mobile friendly.

76% of people looking for a local business will actually go to the physical bricks and mortar location within 24hrs. Between 25% to 30% of those physical visits resulted in a sale for that business. So it is important when targeting local customers to use their relevant place names so that Google can match the people searching for “(business) near me” with your website.

In 2021, about half of users have access to a voice enabled smart device like Google Home or Alexa. 75% of voice query results will be in the top 3.
